Chairman & Chief Geophysicist - Gap Geophysics; and CEO - Gap GeoPak
Mal obtained MSc and PhD degrees in geophysics from the University of New England. He was a a founding member of the Geophysical Research Institute at UNE which pioneered the development of high performance magnetometers and methodologies for mineral exploration and UXO detection. Mal was a co-inventor and lead developer of the Sub-Audio Magnetics Technique. He was also a founding Director of Milsearch, Geophysical Technology (G-tek) and more recently Gap Geophysics, Gap GeoPak and Gap EOD.
Jim completed a B. App. Sc. in Physics at the Queensland University of Technology and has an MBA from the Central Queensland University. Jim has extensive experience in a variety of exploration geophysics and operations and corporate management roles, starting his field career with BPB Slimline services in the mid-90’s, and most recently holding the position of Global Operations Manager (Slimline) for Weatherford in Houston, Texas, before joining the Gap Group in 2015. Jim is responsible for overseeing the business and marketing strategies for the Gap Group while facilitating effective corporate governance and ensuring he makes a meaningful contribution to Gap’s safety culture.
Fongue is a Chartered Accountant who studied a Bachelor of Financial Administration at the University of New England. Fongue has previously worked as a taxation accountant as well as company accountant for several companies including Geophysical Technology Ltd. She is one of the founders and Company Secretary of Gap Geophysics.
Technical Services Manager
Steve has qualifications in Natural Resources Management, Engineering and Geophysics, and has now worked for 28 years primarily in applying geophysical methods to engineering and environmental problems, as well as supporting Gap Geo's core business of Mineral Exploration. He is one of the founders and a director of Gap Geophysics Australia.
Ed Campbell is responsible for software development and computer management. Ed has experience in a diverse range of computer programming applications for Windows and embedded computer systems. He worked as a senior systems engineer on inertial navigation systems in Scotland, and has a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Queen's University, Belfast.
Daniel graduated from the University of Queensland in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Exploration Geophysics. He has worked as a vacation student for Xstrata before joining Gap in 2012. At Gap, his work involves project management, client liaison, leading field crews, and working in quality control of geophysical data.
Chief Operating Officer
Mark completed a BSc in Geology and Geophysics at the University of New England. He has worked for over 20 years applying geophysics to mineral exploration, engineering, environmental and UXO industries within Australia, Europe, Asia and North America. Mark is a founding member of Gap Geophysics Australia, with a focus on Operations from a technical and commercial perspective.
Director - Gap EOD
Dr Billings obtained a PhD in Geophysics/Agriculture from the University of Sydney and is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of British Columbia. He has been the Principal Investigator on 12 completed unexploded ordnance detection and characterisation related projects sponsored by the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program and Environmental Security Technology Certification Programs in the United States. He is a founding director of Black Tusk Geophysics in Canada and of Gap Explosive Ordnance Detection in Australia.
General Manager / Operations
Trent studied at UQ, earning a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Geology. He has worked as a project manager with Geoterrex/Dighem and Quantec Geoscience, domestically and internationally, before becoming the Managing Director of Quantec Geoscience Australia. Trent joined Gap in 2012, and works in Operations, Sales and Marketing, Business Development and HSEC.
Geophysicist, Project Manager
In 2003, Chris graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Science with honours in Geophysics. Chris started as a Field Geophysicist for Geophysical Technology Limited, specialising in data collection for UXO and mineral exploration projects. In 2005 Chris became a Staff UXO Geophysicist for ARM Geophysics. Chris joined GAP in 2010 and works on data processing, data QC and field projects.
Lee has worked with Telstra as a Technical Officer and studied to gain an Associate Diploma of electrical engineering. He has worked at electronics repair, design and manufacturing before joining GAP in 2008. Lee now designs and manufactures equipment for GAP as well as maintaining field equipment.
Lisa is a Chartered Accountant who has completed a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting at QUT. She has previously worked as a financial accountant at Sugar Research company (BSES). In 2009, Lisa joined Gap to be a part of the Accounts team.
